Router operations

Profile
Inside, outside or on the line; climb or conventional; tabs; allowance; ramped entry.
Pocket
Offset rings or raster at any angle; islands and letters respected; pass depth and stepover with 'reset to recommended'.
Drill
A hole at each shape's centre with peck depth.
V-Carve
Follows edges with a V-bit, with flat-floor clearing where the shape is wider than the bit reaches. Refuses non-V bits.
V-Carve Inlay
Pocket and mirrored plug from one toolpath: inlay depth, glue gap, plug margin; the plug gets its own file.
Area Clearance
Clears the bulk with a larger flat bit first, with rest machining. Suggested automatically on Mac.
3D Roughing & Finishing
Layered roughing with an end mill; ball-nose finishing along X, Y or both.
Textures
Basket weave, wood grain, waves and hammered fills that stop at the shape edge.
Helical Bore
Spiral boring of holes larger than the bit (sample plugin).
Imported VCarve moves
VCarve toolpaths run as calculated by VCarve and follow the drawing if it moves.
Tiling
Oversize jobs split into machine-sized tiles with overlap, each with its own zero and files.

Checks on every toolpath

Each toolpath recalculates only when its inputs change, shows its status (calculated, warning, needs recalculation), and is checked for gouging, cutting deeper than the material, wrong bit type and open vectors. Each job shows an estimated cutting time.

Your bits

  • End mill
  • Ball nose
  • V-bit
  • Drill
  • Bowl
  • Radiused
  • Engraving
  • Chamfer
  • Tapered ball
  • Roundover
  • Keyhole
  • Custom form tools

Machine-ready output

Next Wave Shark .tap and GRBL .nc (inch or mm). One file per bit, named for the tool, with warnings repeated on the export sheet.

Limits

Good to know

  • Clearance-bit suggestions are off on iPad, and iPad uses smaller compute budgets.
  • Four built-in router post-processors (Shark and GRBL, inch/mm); the Shark post does not write arcs.
  • Checks and warnings do not replace verifying workholding, bits and machine setup.
